What do i do?
I have had a bit of fun with my friends and family about what i do. They all have "normal" 9-5 type jobs. Most people who know me, don't see what i actually do each day. They just see me on my macbook or iphone.MorningStarts at 8am.
- I check my email on my iphone before i even leave my bed, to see if anything interesting happened while i was sleeping.
- I also check my Google Reader and star any interesting blog posts.
- I watch 30 minutes of TV that i recorded on Sky +, while having a cuppa tea.
- I check eventzi.com and the stats of everything we do (number of new users, new events etc).
- I open Tweetdeck to see what is being said on Twitter. I read my @replies and direct messages.
- I reply to any emails or support questions.
- I go through my starred blog posts on Google Reader, to get news and learn.
AfternoonI watch a video during my 20 minute lunch, then I look at my task list. I user Remember the Milk. This can be things like:
- What we can do better.
- What do users want.
- What is next year.
- I design photoshop mock ups of features that users have requested. We get loads of amazing ideas.
- I work with my team on the latest developments to the site.
- I write, either to solve a problem, to provide content for the blog or i share someone elses content.
- I look at how we can make our site easier to use.
- I work on ideas others have shared and look at how we can kick it up a level. Seth Godin and Jason Calacanis are exceptional.
- Towards the end of the day i study the analytics of the site and look at what is going well and going wrong. Then tweak.
- Just now we are building Eventzi V2.0, so while i manage the team, we also have to test the new site a lot.
NightIf i stay in, i continue work from the rest of the day or i learn something new until 11pm. If i go out, i finish working at 7:30pm, then i see my girlfriend, play football, go a run or hit the gym.---So there you go, that's are some of the things i do each day. Obviously, i have left out a lot of things like working to get customers, advertising, inbound marketing, connecting with people, commenting on blogs and listening. The toughest part is to learn all the time, use it to do something different, measure it, then iterate to get better results.---I'm still learning. :)
