TIP: Dont use Fasthosts
Fasthosts are crap.In June i helped my girlfriend get a domain for her business and used Fasthosts for it. They had a nice promotion to attach a server which would let my girlfriend run a blog.
After about 20 minutes we saw it was far too complicated and asked to have the server stopped. After tons of emails (it took 6 days to get any real help, nobody read the question) and 30 minutes on the phone i was told that it would be stopped.
They didn't stop it. We started to get charged after 3 free months, so i email Fasthosts to stop it. They send 3 emails. Notification (cool), Auto response (not cool) and a Personal response (was a waste of time). I had to call into Fasthosts. So I'm thinking, iv read 3 emails and i still have to call in. This is doing my head in.
So today i called in, waited 10 minutes in a queue for the closure team (says it all) and they said that i never called them to close it. There's no record. Oh and it cant be closed until Dec 2010. Yep i should have read the small print. But we are nearly in 2010, Fasthosts - help people out. How many non-tech people are you pissing off?
Fasthosts, thanks for the customer "support". I wont use you ever again. I wont recommend you ever again.
I will repeat this story again and again.

For domains, GoDaddy are brilliant. Their customer support is amazing and they are the nicest people to talk to in the world. They care.
For cheap ways to start blogging or to start a website try Bluehost or Hostgator. I have had zero problems with both and its easy to use.
I now use Posterous.

You omit to mention that the thieves also charge £20 per failed renewal transaction- that is arguably punative and therefore illegal.
To cancel after 12 months you have to phone up with all your info- they send you a cancellation form which you have to get back to them within two weeks.
The t&cs might suggest that you have 2 weeks from the point of phoning.
The fact that you cant cancel via the secure control panels highlights what sh/t bags they are.
I tried to cancel 13 hours after opening the account.
